The Arches NP Oct. 2024
Landscape Arch Trail
We started planning this trip earlier that year as getting camping spots inside National Parks is very popular and usually very limited. We had a week in Moab which is very close to the entrance of the Arches NP and did biking and running around there before going into the National Park.
Devils garden campground is located in the north end of the park and is ideal camp spot as the hike to the biggest arches starts close by. It’s dry camping spot and needs to be reserved 6 months prior to visit just to get a spot. Good thing is that if you have a camp spot inside the NP you do not need to get “timed entry pass” to get in to the NP.
There are two longer hikes to actually to see anything .. one is the Landscape Arch Trail where you see the bigger arches and “ the biggest arch in the world”. It is just under 2 mile round trip but do not under estimate the hike as it HOT, dusty, dodging people and can be “climbing skills needed” if you want to see it all.
The other longer hike is to Delicate Arch (that you see in all Utah registration plates :) it is a bit easier hike but 3 miles round trip. When you drive towards it the first carpark on your left is for the long hike and if you keep driving the road dead ends to an other car park that you can hike shorter distance and see the Arch from far distance.
Devil’s garden camp spot
Delicate Arch.. as you can see I took the shorter hike!!! Tons of people all around the arch.
All the other stuff.. that people like us with dogs you can see “from the car” or after a short hike. To do it all in a day is a lot. Drive from south end of the park to north end is about 1.30h with out stopping to see anything. You will get a great guide chart from the entrance with your entry fee. Dogs are not allowed on any hikes or trails. I ran Rhona on the road and as there are tons of cars and people it was dodgy to say the least. Saw few cyclist but there is no shoulder to ride on and .. did I mention… a lot of cars!!!!! It is a desert and gets really hot and windy really fast!
There is no food or water to buy in the park so bring your own.
The Arches National Park is really easy to access from Moab. Moab has all the things that one can want and more. Super touristic but that’s why we are there right!!!? Before you leave home remember to book your '“timed entry for your car” to get into the park. If you don’t do that you can enter the park before 7am or after 4pm.
